Christmas painting!

Posted in Illustration, family  by dmiles

It’s no secret that I love my nieces! I decided to try painting them pictures this year for Christmas… it’s been a while since I have had a real paint brush in my hand but it went pretty well. Lucy’s painting shows her with a lion. My sister love’s the imagery behind Aslan and Lucy so that was the inspiration for that painting. Maddie’s and the moose was inspired by the little rocking moose her parents picked up at Ikea. She loves animals :) . I would like to try my hand at more painting so maybe there will be more in the future :) .

Write No Evil

Posted in Illustration, family  by dmiles

Whoa! Where have I been?

I have just had the best Christmas with family (both old and new :) and friends. I shared new traditions with my wife and her family. The most memorable being a gift box for Jesus where we wrote our gifts to him onto a card and put them in the box to be opened next year. (Actually mine never made it in the box but I want to add it soon!). I also shared a Christmas at my parents house with the usual suspects and the addition of my wife and 2 nieces nearly 2 years of age. It was so much fun to see Christmas through the eyes of children :) .

Well, here is my latest art piece. A banner for a web blog called Write No Evil. My initial sketch didn’t really excite me all that much but this one feels a lot better.

Until next post!

Christmas Dreamin’

Posted in Illustration  by dmiles

As we draw nearer to Christmas I find myself scrambling to send out my company Christmas card before everyone goes on vacation and it turns into a New Years card! I love working on a composition and putting a new twist on a traditional subject. This year proved difficult simply because I felt like I wanted to do a nativity but I think I did that last year… eventually I settled on a dreams of Christmas composition inspired by the “Night Before Christmas” poem.

I’ve also got a few Christmas gifts in the works that I’ll post details about after Christmas… Ho HO ho :)

Sketching

Posted in Illustration  by dmiles

Hey! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving :) . I have been winding down a little from a long stretch of intense art development. Over the holiday my sister-in-law and her boyfriend were working on about 50 sketches for an art school assignment. It sounds like it was designed to get them to draw (duh!) and fill up the mental library of visual material. Anyway, it inspired me to do some sketching of my own. This one was from a photo of a sculpture bust I found online. Hopefully there will be more to come!

(I have some fun projects planned for Christmas… but I can’t post those until after the holiday or I’ll spoil the surprise! :)
