Another fun (for me!) ArtOrder challenge.  They have a style guide for gnomes and this week the assignment was to throw the gnome in the wayback machine and figure out how their primitive selves would have looked.

According to the style guide, gnomes are slight, sly tricksters who live in the forest.  They dwell among the roots so I imagined a slightly less refined and more monstrous gnome would be more animal-like.  The have longer arms and those clingy toes so they can flit among the branches of trees.  They travel in packs and use their illusory magiks to sneak up on unsuspecting adventurers and take them down!

I’m working on a project that is turning into a little bit of a battle… a color battle .  Color has always been a learning experience for me and this is turning out to be a good one!  I’ve got my color wheel out and I’m working up something great (I hope!).  I decided to take a short break and personify the ‘beast’ i am wrestling with.  Perhaps I’ll draw up his little brother ‘texture’ later….

Well boys and girls it’s that time of year again!  Here is a look at my yearly promo card (okay I suppose there may be others this year but this is the first!).  I am trying to show people that I can do both cartoony and realistic looking artwork.  Hopefully this will get the point across.  I’ve also got promo pages in the download section and a gallery page on this website.

I’m back with another shot at the fantasy illustration genre!  I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, this is fun!  Maybe it’s just because it’s not like anything I used to doing or maybe it’s because I’m a guys who likes fantastic adventures .

This week ArtOrder challenge us to conceptualize from something that is right under our noses!  The Boll Weevil is a small pest who messes with farmers crops in real life. But in the fantasy realm they are giant, flying war machines!  Tamed by the Bromide race for use on the battlefield, the Boll Deevil have the ability to swoop down on their prey and poison them with toxic gases.  How cool is that?
