Comment 8. Melinda!  Congratulations, Melinda and thank-you for sharing your favorite holiday food which is your Grandmommies Pumpkin Pie!  I’d have to say that pumpkin pie is one of my personal favorites too so it’s good to know that this drawing will be going to a fellow pie-lover!  If you don’t get an email from me please contact me via this website with your mailing address so I can send you the watercolor!

Thanks to everyone who entered my little contest.  I’ve really enjoyed promoting Cop’s Christmas and meeting people at the book signings.  Thank-you to everyone for all of the support :) .

Hey everyone! If you are not aware, I have worked on a little painting that I’m ‘raffling’ off on my blog. To be entered you just need to click here to get to the original blog post and leave a comment containing your favorite holiday food. I’ll be doing a random drawing and will post the results shortly after December 10th! Here is the completed painting. Good luck and thanks for your support!

Hello!  Well, this one snuck up on me.  I have one more book signing on the ‘Cop’s Night Before Christmas’ tour!  I really enjoyed the last one because family and friends showed up in force!  It was great.  Here are the details for the next one.  Hope to see you there!’

Webbed Feet

Happy Thanksgiving’s Eve!  I hope everyone is enjoying a happy and safe holiday season. The snow has yet to make an appearance here in Kalamazoo but I’m ready for it.

Today’s image is a Sketchoholic.com contest based on the theme ‘Webbed Feet’.  There were a lot of creatures from the black lagoon and lots of creative takes on the subject!  I couldn’t get the Lord of the Rings out of my head so here is Bilbo and his encounter with Sheelob.  Must be the season to sit inside for a 12 hour (?) marathon of LOTR!

In other news…

-I’ve just completed the Miles family holiday card!  I’m pretty excited about this one and will post a view of it on Christmas Eve.

-I also wanted to thank the friends and family who have supported ‘Cop’s Night Before Christmas’!  I have a post in the making with photos from a book signing as well as an update on my artwork giveaway.  If you’d like to enter to win the art you still have time.  You just need to leave a comment here with you correct email address and your favorite holiday food.  If nothing else you should check out the other comments!  I can almost smell the goodies!

Thanks for stopping by!

Santa Cop Contest!

Hey guys!

I’ve wanted to do this for a looong time so I’m finally going to do it!  I’m starting a piece of original Santa Cop themed art in conjunction with the release of ‘Cop’s Night Before Christmas’ and I’m going to raffle it off right here!  If you want to see my progress you can check back once in a while and click on the CONTEST tab up above or meet me at one of my book signings and I’ll bring it along. I think the odds are pretty good so why not enter!

All you have to do is leave a comment on this posting telling me your favorite holiday food (be sure your correct email address is entered in as well).  All I have to do is complete an illustration before December 10th, 2010 because that is when I will have the drawing and contact the winner!

Good luck!!

Please try to keep it to one comment per person.  I’ll be using a random number generator to generate the number of the winning comment!

Update 11/13/2010:

I’ve uploaded some scans on the progress.  I sat down on the couch last night and worked on some thumbnails in my sketchbook until I came upon something that I liked.  Next I refined the drawing and worked out some details.  Next step is transferring it to the paper and inking it!

What?!

These pictures have nothing to do with water!… unless you think about watering the ‘Head Plant’ but that’s not what I mean. I’ve been struggling with how to depict water in a book I’m working on this week. I’ve painted the water, erased the water, and started over several times already! I decided I needed to clear my head and work on some pieces that were completely unrelated. Sketchoholics unite!

Maybe I’ll post about the water later :) .

And so am I! Coming to town that is. Last winter I worked on the illustrations for ‘Cop’s Night Before Christmas’ by Michael Harrison and published by Pelican Publishing. This next week I will have my first book signing as an illustrator! I’m a little nervous and excited. There have been jokes that it might be just me and the crickets at the signing but I’m not dismayed! I’m hoping to be armed with some sort of promotional giveaway and my winning smile so if you are reading this and live in the area please come and visit me! I’d love to meet you.

Lazy Bones

A few more themed pieces.  It’s been a busy September but I feel recharged when I work on a couple of pieces for myself.

Check out Sketchoholic if you are an artist in need of a little camaraderie, inspiration and motivation!  They have free interviews with well known illustrators, comic book artists, concept artists, the list is growing!  And daily contests to get your artistic juices flowing.  Come and join our community!

Lynn Johnston Contest and Interview

Tomorrow (Thursday, September 9th) at 10AM Bobby Chiu is interviewing the writer and illustrator of the For Better Or For Worse comics!  Should be pretty incredible :) .  My Mom and I used to enjoy them every Sunday in the color comics section so I’m looking forward to the interview.  As with every artist interview, you can create a piece of art based on a theme for a chance to win an original piece of art by the artist (usually based on the same theme).  The topic for this interview is ‘The Family Dog’.

Walking the family dog on their first date.
