I’m working on a project that is turning into a little bit of a battle… a color battle . Color has always been a learning experience for me and this is turning out to be a good one! I’ve got my color wheel out and I’m working up something great (I hope!). I decided to take a short break and personify the ‘beast’ i am wrestling with. Perhaps I’ll draw up his little brother ‘texture’ later….

Almost Home Sweet Home

The past year has been super busy and life changing! From fixing up and selling Carrie’s home to fixing up and selling my home there’s been a lot to do! We wouldn’t have gotten to where we are now without the love, support, and prayers of our family and friends. I still need to move my things to Kalamazoo but I think we can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. Carrie and I made an offer on the home pictured above and it was accepted! It’s a small miracle to have found a place that makes both of us giddy with excitement. I can’t wait to have a house with a spouse !

September 27th is right around the corner!

Golden TICKET

Cory Godbey’s TICKET has been a regular topic on Cory’s blog, Light Night Rains for some time now. As an illustrator, it’s been pretty inspiring to see someone compose and complete their own illustrated magazine in a few months! And I really like his work too. I can relate to his sense of whimsy and love the line work in his drawings!

Well, I followed his process through to the end and finally raced to order his ‘zine’. I felt like I wanted to be the first one in line because, by now I think I should be considered a fan… I don’t think I’ll start dressing like him or anything but I live in the country craft triangle of the Midwest and I’ll take my inspiration where I can get it! Anyway, I was first! I just received my copy of TICKET this morning and tucked inside the first page was a drawing by Cory with a note. I imagine this is how Charlie Bucket must have felt .

Thanks Cory! The Zine is great. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Faces of the Earth

I’m a compulsive STUMBLEr. There I’ve said it. I like it because, occasionally I’ll find something I’d never have seen otherwise. Like this little guy for instance. I found him in a blog entry featuring a bunch of wonderful photographs taken of everyday, man-made objects. Each is framed in such a way that it shows their ‘human’ characteristics… some of them are really great! Why is it that we model things in our own image? Hmm… Like Father like children . The rest of the images are equally as animated so be sure to take a look!

Top of the line Dad!

I’ve been having trouble with my mower! It runs fine but it hadn’t been mowing. It kind-of ripped the grass instead of cutting it and I thought I needed to buy new blades. So I mentioned it to my Dad and he said, “Let’s go out to eat and I’ll help you find the blades and install them!” He’s always ready to help . After dinner, a trip to Lowe’s, and a few minutes of sticking our arms under the mower and getting scratched up my Dad discovered that the blades were installed upside down!! So we flopped the blades and now ‘Old Red’ mows like a dream!

I’m sure it’s not a surprise to anyone that he figured it out. He’s so talented and has the know-how that enables him to assess a problem and fix it. If he doesn’t know how to fix it then he’s usually able to do some research and figure it out. And he’s always willing to sacrifice his free time to help others and he never asks for anything in return. My brother and sister and I are so blessed to have such a great Dad who models God’s love for us on a daily basis.
